UPDATE: KSP Investigating a Trooper Involved Shooting in Dixon

Update(May 1, 2017) – Alex Harvey has been released from St. Mary’s Hospital and has been lodged in the Vanderburgh County Jail in Evansville, IN. He is being held without bond while awaiting extradition back to Kentucky to be charged. The date for extradition is unknown at this time. The investigation is continuing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Update(April 28, 2017) – The Kentucky State Police Trooper involved has been identified as Master Trooper William Braden. He is a decorated sixteen year veteran of the Kentucky State Police. Master Trooper Braden remains on paid administrative leave per KSP Policy while the investigation continues.

Update(April 26, 2017) – The Clay Police Officer involved has been identified as Chief Chris Evitts. He was treated for his injuries and released from Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville. The identity of the Kentucky State Police Trooper will be released at a later time and he has been placed on paid administrative leave per KSP policy. Alex Harvey is still listed in stable condition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, IN and will be facing multiple charges in connection with the counterfeiting investigation and the assault of the officer and Trooper. The investigation is still ongoing by the Kentucky State Police and further details in relation to criminal charges will be released as that information becomes available.

Dixon(April 25, 2017) – Kentucky State Police is currently investigating a Trooper involved shooting that occurred in the 600 block of US-41A south of Dixon, at approximately 4:42 p.m.

OnThe Kentucky State Police Post 2 along with the Clay Police Department were conducting an investigation in reference to possible counterfeit money. The KSP Trooper arrived at the 600 block of US-41A with the Clay Police Officer where they encountered Alex Harvey, 30, Dixon and Damien Golike, 23, Henderson in the driveway. Both men were detained and Alex Harvey was secured in the back of the Clay PD cruiser and Damien Golike was secured in the back of a Webster County Sheriff Department cruiser that had arrived to assist. While law enforcement were securing evidence at the residence, Alex Harvey managed to bring his handcuffed arms from behind his back to the front of his person. Harvey then managed to get from the back of the car to the front driver’s seat. Harvey then placed the Clay PD car in reverse striking the Webster County Sheriff vehicle that was parked behind him. As the Clay Police Officer was attempting to stop Harvey, he then started driving forward, trapping the officer in the door of the cruiser and dragging him. The KSP Trooper, seeing the Clay Officer being dragged, also approached Harvey, and Harvey then accelerated toward the Trooper. The Trooper then fired his issued weapon into the vehicle striking Harvey and ending the situation. The Clay Officer received injuries from being dragged and was transported to Baptist Health Madisonville’s Emergency Room for treatment. Alex Harvey was transported to Methodist Hospital Emergency Room in Henderson where he is listed in stable condition. Harvey has been subsequently transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville for further treatment of his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police. They were assisted at the scene by Clay Police Department, Webster County Sheriff Department and Webster County EMS.
