Kentucky State Police Post 8 Investigate Injury Collision in Montgomery County

MT. STERLING, Ky. (September, 21, 2025) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 8 Morehead received a request for assistance from Central Dispatch in Montgomery County, in reference to an injury collision on Interstate 64 (I-64) at exit 113. 

Montgomery County Sheriff David Charles, had been requested by Bath County Fire Department to assist them by shutting down I-64 at exit 113 to provide a detour while they cleared a scene at mile marker 118. While Sheriff Charles was still in his cruiser a 2025 Dodge Ram Pickup with his emergency equipment activated. Michael Morris, 61 of Lawrenceburg KY, was traveling East bound on I-64 in his KIA Telluride and struck the rear of the Sheriff’s truck. Sheriff Charles was transported to St. Joe Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Michael Morris and his passengers Mary Morris and Kristie Godby also of Lawrenceburg KY, were also transported by ambulance to St. Joe Hospital for their injuries.  

Mr. Morris would later be airlifted to UK hospital in Lexington and is listed in stable condition.  Sheriff Charles has since been treated and released from the hospital. 

KSP was assisted on scene by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Mt. Sterling Fire Department and Mt. Sterling Police Department. The collision remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by Trooper Jordan Barnett.
