Post 5 supervision was contacted by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m., reporting that a shooting had occurred at a gun store located at 1496 Whites Run Rd. in Carroll County. Upon the arrival of KSP Post 5 personnel, they located the victim inside the store receiving treatment by EMS for a gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a customer in the store was viewing a firearm for sale and manipulating it when a single round discharged, striking the victim, who was also in the store. Other store patrons immediately attempted life-saving measures. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Chad Wainscott, a 50-year-old male from Worthville, KY.

The individual in physical control of the firearm at the time it discharged is cooperating with investigators, and witnesses at the scene have been interviewed. At this time, based on statements and evidence collected, no foul play is suspected. No charges are pending at this time, and this is an ongoing investigation by Post 5 detectives.
