Kentucky State Police Post 5 Working Collision on Interstate 71 in Henry County

CAMPBELLSBURG, Ky. (03/15/2024) – On Friday March 15, 2024 Kentucky State Police Post 5 in Campbellsburg was notified of a collision at 6:16 am.  The collision happened near the 32 mile marker on Interstate 71 northbound. 

The preliminary investigation indicates a Lake Jericho Fire Department fire truck was traveling north on Interstate 71 while responding to an accident at the 31 mile marker on Interstate 71 southbound.  The firetruck attempted to pull into the median crossover at the 32 mile marker and while negotiating the turn a semi also traveling north behind the firetruck struck the rear of the vehicle.  Two firefighters were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.  The driver of the semi truck did not require transport. 

The collision caused traffic to be backed up on Interstate 71 while crews worked to clear the roadway.  Both directions of Interstate 71 have been reopened at this time.
