
Officer Involved Shooting in Larue County
(Hodgenville, KY.) –Kentucky State Police Post 4 Troopers responded to an officer involved shooting in Larue County on April 18, 2018.
At approximately 3:08 P.M. EDT, KSP received notification of a vehicle pursuit that started in the Buffalo Community of Larue County. KSP Post 4 was informed that Deputy Kevin Bennett, a 3 year veteran of the Larue County Sheriff’s Department, observed Jason Schafer (35) of Elizabethtown, operating a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck. Deputy Bennett had knowledge that Schafer had outstanding warrants for his arrest. Deputy Bennett initiated a traffic stop and Schafer failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit lasted approximately 20 minutes and finally concluded on private property in the Roanoke Community of Larue County. Deputy Bennett discharged his service weapon striking Schafer. Schafer was air lifted to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. The case is still under investigation by KSP Post 4 Detectives and was assisted by the KSP Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). Deputy Bennett was placed on administrative leave as standard procedure. The case will be presented to the Larue County Grand Jury for review at a later date.
