Kentucky State Police Investigates Shooting in Meade Co.

VINE GROVE, Ky. (Jan. 15, 2024) – On Jan. 14, 2024, at approximately 10:11 P.M. EST, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 4 received a call from Meade Co. Dispatch requesting assistance in investigating a shooting that had occurred at a residence on Mountain Lane in Meade Co.   

The preliminary investigation revealed David Gex, 51, of Vine Grove, called 911 and stated he had shot Richard Hernandez, 59, of Irvington, after they had got into a verbal altercation. Upon troopers and detectives arriving at the scene, Gex was taken into custody without incident.

Hernandez was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Meade Co. Coroner’s Office, and Gex was charged with murder and lodged in the Meade Co. Detention Center.

KSP was assisted by the Meade Co. Sheriff’s Office, Meade Co. EMS, and the Meade Co. Coroner’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing by Det. Joey Beasley.
