UPDATE: Kentucky State Police Investigating Christian County Shooting

MADISONVILLE, Ky.- (Aug. 21, 2024) The suspect identified as Christopher Elder, 46, of Elizabethtown Ky, succumbed to his injuries at approximately 5:51 pm on August 19, 2024.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. – (Aug. 19, 2024) The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 2 Madisonville is investigating a shooting following a multi-county pursuit involving a suspect from an incident in Hardin County. At approximately 8:49 a.m. (ET), KSP Post 4 in Elizabethtown was notified that an ‘Attempt to Locate’ was initiated for a male subject believed to be involved in an earlier domestic violence shooting incident in Elizabethtown. The suspect’s vehicle, identified as a silver 2008 Hyundai Elantra, was observed near Greenville, KY, and officers with the Muhlenberg County Sherriff’s Office and Greenville Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit crossed into Christian County and ended when the suspect turned from KY 189 onto Judges Chapel Road, where he stopped his vehicle in a parking lot. Law enforcement from multiple agencies attempted to communicate with the suspect, attempting to de-escalate the situation and negotiate a peaceful surrender. At 11:15 CT, the suspect discharged a weapon, causing a self-inflicted wound. Officers immediately rendered aid, and the individual was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he is in critical condition. The investigations of the Christian County shooting incident, and the multi-county pursuit, remain ongoing by Post 2 personnel.
The earlier shooting investigation in Hardin County is being investigated by the Elizabethtown Police Department.
KSP Post 2 was assisted during this incident by the multiple KSP branches, Muhlenberg County Sherriff’s Office, Greenville Police Department, Christian County Sherriff’s Office, Hopkinsville Police Department, Central City Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Lacey Volunteer Fire Department, and Hopkinsville Fire/EMS.
