Kentucky State Police Post 13 Investigate Letcher County Fatal Collision
COLSON, Ky. (June 8, 2026) – Kentucky State Police, Post 13 in Hazard is investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Letcher County man over the weekend in the Colson community of Letcher County.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 11:52 p.m., Kentucky State Police responded to a crash detection alert near the intersection of KY-7 and KY-1410. Upon arrival, troopers located a Lincoln MKZ that had traveled over an embankment.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Kathy Hall, 71, of Deane, was traveling on KY-7 North while transporting a passenger to the hospital for a medical emergency. During the trip, the passenger, Eugene Hall, 72, of Deane, became unresponsive. As a result, the driver veered off the roadway and subsequently over-corrected, crossing the center line before the vehicle overturned onto its driver’s side in a nearby creek.
Eugene Hall was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office. Kathy Hall was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
Toxicology and autopsy results are pending. Both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing and is being reconstructed by Detective Brandon Thomas.
