
Kentucky State Police Investigates Perry County Theft Case
HAZARD, Ky. ( April 28, 2025) – Two Perry County people are now in custody following a several month long investigation. In early January, Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, was contacted by the Kentucky Fire Commission in reference to complaints of misconduct.
Detectives with KSP, launched an investigation into allegations that Jakes Branch Fire Department, Chief James C. Farris, and girlfriend Sharla Stacy were involved in the misappropriation of department funding. Through investigation It was discovered that Farris used thousands of department funds for personal use. Findings from the investigation were presented to a Perry County Grand Jury, resulting in Indictment warrants being issued.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, Trooper’s with KSP located and served arrest warrants for James C. Farris, 36, of Bulan and Sharla R. Stacy, 36, of Bulan. Both were transported to Kentucky River Regional Jail and charged with one count Theft By Unlawful Taking and one count Abuse of Public Trust. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Chadd Daniels.
