Kentucky State Police Investigates an Officer Involved Shooting

The Scott County Deputy was transported to University of Kentucky Hospital where he is in critical condition.

Georgetown, Ky. (September 12, 2018) – Deputies from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department and Georgetown Police Officers were involved in an Officer related shooting occurring at the Rest Area on Interstate 75 North in Scott County.

At approximately 10:15pm on Tuesday, September 11, Scott County Deputies and Georgetown Police Officers were assisting Federal Agents from the US Marshall’s in apprehending a fugitive from another state. Deputies located Edward Reynolds, age 57 of Florida, at the 127mm rest area on I-75 North in Scott County. Scott County Georgetown Special Response Team (SRT) initiated contact with Edward Reynolds. Preliminary investigation revealed, Scott County Georgetown SRT confronted Edward Reynolds. During the course of that confrontation, shots were fired.

Edward Reynolds was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott County Coroner. The Scott County Deputy was transported to University of Kentucky Hospital where he is in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and Kentucky State Police Post 12 Detectives. The Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Georgetown Police Department, GSCEMS, Scott County Coroner and the US Marshalls and FBI.
