KSP Investigate Officer Involved Shooting

Georgetown, Ky. (April 9, 2021) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP), Post 12 has been requested by Georgetown Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 6:57 am EST on April 9 in Scott County.

KSP’s critical incident response team has arrived on the scene and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. The preliminary investigation indicates that police were notified of an individual attempting to break into vehicles located in the parking lot of McDonalds. Upon arrival on the scene, Georgetown Police Department approached the suspect, at which time the individual ran from the scene and attempted to break into a vehicle. The male suspect then turned and pointed a gun at officers. During the course of that confrontation, shots were fired.

The male suspect was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. No officers or members of the community were injured during this incident.

At the request of the Georgetown Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Post 12, is conducting an investigation into the incident. KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local law enforcement agencies. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP policy not to release any additional details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered.  Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
