
Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatality Collision
Shelbyville, Ky. (April 5, 2021) – On Sunday, April 4, 2021, Kentucky State Police responded to investigate a single vehicle fatal collision on Frankfort Road, US 60 in Shelby County. The collision occurred during a pursuit of the vehicle.
The Shelbyville Police Department were attempting to locate a red, 1999 Pontiac Firebird after the operator of the vehicle stopped on the travel portion of the roadway and pointed a handgun at other motorists. A Shelbyville Police Officer located the vehicle, activated his emergency equipment and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and a pursuit ensued lasting approximately two to three miles.
The preliminary investigation indicates the operator of the Pontiac Firebird, Michael Wagner, age 47 of Geneva, IN was traveling east on Frankfort Road. Michael attempted to elude police by traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle and was ejected.
Michael Wagner was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner.
Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Shelbyville Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby County Fire and EMS and the Shelby County Coroner.
The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police Post 12 Collision Reconstruction Units.
