Frankfort Resident Recognized on National Stage for Leadership

Kentucky State Police Honored by American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Academy

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 17, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) is earning national recognition for its outstanding leadership in forensic science. While the KSP Crime Laboratory System is widely regarded as the premier forensic system in the commonwealth, its leadership is now being recognized nationally.

Jeremy Triplett, Director of the KSP Central Forensic Laboratory, was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) Academy. The award was presented at ASCLD’s annual meeting in Denver, CO., last week.

“I’m incredibly honored to receive this award, and I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished at the Leadership Academy over the past decade,” said Triplett. “It has truly been a team effort, and the credit belongs to our outstanding team of world-class instructors. It’s rewarding to see the academy’s impact in shaping the future leaders of forensic science.”

Triplett was recognized for his pivotal contributions to creating and leading the ASCLD Leadership Academy – an initiative launched in 2014 to cultivate leadership skills among forensic science professionals. Aimed at both current and aspiring leaders in forensic laboratories, the academy has since become the most recognized name for leadership development.

Under Triplett’s guidance, the Leadership Academy has trained over 1,000 professionals from 46 states and 9 countries. The program features a comprehensive three-tier curriculum focused on supervisor, manager and executive-level leadership. The Academy’s success also paved the way for developing a national certification for forensic managers, which was introduced in 2016.

Triplett has dedicated more than two decades to the KSP Central Forensic Laboratory, serving in roles ranging from forensic chemist to supervisor of seized drugs and now as the laboratory’s director. His leadership has played a pivotal role in advancing forensic operations across the agency. In 2020, KSP became one of the first crime laboratory systems in the nation to implement the Organization of Scientific Area Committees’ rigorous standards for the analysis of seized drugs.

The KSP Forensic Laboratory System operates six facilities across the commonwealth, staffed by more than 180 highly trained professionals who process over 40,000 pieces of evidence annually. Services include DNA analysis, firearm examination, toxicology, and trace evidence testing. KSP is hiring full-time positions within its forensic laboratories.
