Harlan County man arrested after leading Trooper on pursuit

Cases is still under investigation by Tpr. Wilson.

Tremont, Ky. (October 23, 2018) On October 22, 2018 at 12:44 a.m. Tpr. Drew Wilson was patrolling on U.S. 119 in the Tremont community of Harlan County. Tpr. Wilson noticed a tan 4-door passenger vehicle appeared to be disabled on the side of the highway. Tpr. Wilson approached the vehicle and recognized the operator as David Estes, (35) of Dayhoit and ask for his identification. Tpr. Wilson discovered that Mr. Estes had active warrants. At that time, Tpr. Wilson ask Mr. Estes to step out of the vehicle. Mr. Estes failed to exit his vehicle and attempted to run over Tpr. Wilson with his vehicle. Tpr. Wilson then pursed this vehicle for approximately one mile before Mr. Estes lost control of his vehicle and became stuck in a ditch. Mr. Estes then attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended after a brief struggle. Mr. Estes was arrested and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center for the following charges:

1.     Speeding

2.     Improper equipment

3.     No seat belt

4.     No insurance card

5.     Failure to maintain insurance

6.     No registration receipt

7.     Resisting arrest

8.     Wanton endangerment 1st degree – Police Officer

9.     Wanton endangerment 1st degree

10.  Fleeing or evading police 1st degree – Motor vehicle

11.  Menacing

12.  Failure to or improper signal

13.  Reckless driving

14.  Disorderly conduct 2nd degree

The female passenger in the vehicle was not charged and didn’t receive and injuries during the incident.

Cases is still under investigation by Tpr. Wilson.
