Kentucky State Police Provides Update on Tornado Relief Efforts

Mayfield, KY. (December 13, 2021) – The Kentucky State Police continues to assist in tornado relief efforts across Western Kentucky. Troopers have been working in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies to conduct hundreds of welfare checks to determine those citizens in need and make contact with those who’s families have been otherwise unable to reach them. Troopers are also assisting local law enforcement agencies to maintain public safety and security of homes and businesses affected by the tornado which includes enforcing the ordinance establishing a curfew from dusk until dawn.

Kentucky State Police has also been working in conjunction with the Chief Medical Examiner, Bill Ralston, to assist with victim identification. The Kentucky State Police Forensic Laboratory is using Rapid DNA technology to assist in the identification of victims of Friday night’s storms. Rapid DNA has been used throughout the country for this purpose and can provide results in less than two hours, which allows family members to be notified quickly if their missing loved one has been found.

There is new contact information available for those wishing to volunteer or donate to the tornado relief efforts in Graves County. This information can be found at https://wp.kentuckystatepolice.ky.gov/westernky-relief/

Gov. Beshear has established the ‘Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund’ to assist those impacted by the tornadoes and severe weather. For more information how you can assist, click here.
