Kentucky State Police Post 1 Prepares for Winter Weather Response
MAYFIELD, Ky. (January 23, 2026) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 1 is preparing for winter weather that is expected to impact the district this weekend. In preparation, we would like to provide a few important reminders to the public.
We first ask the public to be prepared without panic. Prepare to stay home this weekend if possible and avoid unnecessary travel as we do anticipate the high probability of hazardous road conditions. Have non-perishable food, bottled water, and an alternate heating source on hand in case of power outages so you are not having to get out in hazardous conditions to get those items once the weather moves in. Charge cell phones in advance to have a way to receive alerts or call for help in case of emergency.
Only call 911 in case of emergency. Please do not call 911 to ask about weather or road conditions, updates on power outages, or to inquire about when your road will be plowed. Utilize snowky.ky.gov and goky.ky.gov to obtain information on weather and road conditions.
Vehicles left along the roadway, even on the shoulder of the road, present a hazard to other motorists and snow plows during winter weather. Troopers will be utilizing a rotating list of approved wrecker companies to clear abandoned vehicles from roadways in preparation for winter weather response. If you do get stranded in a vehicle during winter weather, please contact KSP Post 1 by calling our non-emergency number 270-856-3721.
We encourage the public and our media partners to follow our Facebook page @TrooperBurgess for timely updates on the KSP Post 1 winter weather response.
