Kentucky State Police Launch Enhanced Website with Innovative Features Including New Interactive Tip Line

Modern design provides a user-friendly experience to better serve citizens

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 16, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) has launched a new, redesigned website, aimed at providing a streamlined, user-friendly experience for Kentuckians. The fresh, modern look contains new features, including an interactive tip submission tool, reinforcing KSP’s commitment to enhancing public safety.

“The new Kentucky State Police website will enhance public safety through innovative technology,” said Gov. Beshear. “The ability to confidentially submit a crime tip will make it easier for the public to interact with and submit important information to our law enforcement officers. I encourage Kentuckians to use this tool as we work together to make our commonwealth safer for us all.”

The “Tip Line” application is a confidential tool allowing individuals to provide valuable information to KSP about criminal activity, suspicious incidents, or persons of interest. The tip icon is located on every webpage of the new site in the lower right-hand corner. When citizens click the button, it will take them to a crime tip form page. Citizens are required to fill out the incident location, time of incident and what happened. There is an option to upload a file under 5MB, such as a photo, to assist in the crime tip report. It is optional to include your name, phone number and email. The tip is then routed to a dispatch center for review and action.

“We are excited to unveil our newly redesigned website, which was created with all Kentuckians in mind,” said KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett, Jr. “We believe the new site will make it easier for the public to interact with us, while also providing a robust recruitment platform for both sworn and civilian careers within our agency.”

KSP partnered with World Wide Technology (WWT), a global technology solutions provider, to build an innovative website utilizing advanced analytics to determine which content would be featured prominently. The heaviest web traffic to the KSP website was Driver Testing, Concealed Carry of Deadly Weapons and the Sex Offender Registry pages. Therefore, these links are now on the website’s homepage for easy access.

“WWT partnered with the Kentucky State Police Public Affairs office to deliver a new look and feel for their website that is visually appealing and accessible for the citizens of the great state of Kentucky,” said Vice President, State & Local Government and Education, WWT Shawn Rodriguez. “We took a data-driven approach to ensure the information most sought after by the citizens of Kentucky is front and center on the page, with easy-to-use menus for anything a user might want or need to find. WWT is delighted that KSP allowed us to be a part of this important initiative to help drive a better digital experience for the citizens of Kentucky.”

Another feature is the “Thank a Trooper” icon in the top right-hand corner of each page, allowing citizens to express their appreciation for the dedicated work of KSP personnel. In addition, four tabs in the top left-hand corner of the website provide easy access to more resources, including:

• About Us: Learn about KSP’s mission, fallen heroes and post locations
• Community: Explore KSP’s community engagement, social media and outreach programs
• Resources: Access a wide range of helpful resources, including safety tips and information on various services
• Careers: Discover sworn, civilian and apprenticeship career opportunities

KSP encourages Kentuckians to explore the new website, familiarize themselves with its features and take advantage of the opportunity to submit crime tips to help keep communities safe.

The Beshear-Coleman Administration has taken several steps to support law enforcement while creating safer communities.

On Aug. 11, Gov. Andy Beshear and KSP announced that 51 cadets had graduated the agency’s training academy and were now ready to report for duty across the commonwealth.

In July, the Governor and Commissioner Burnett unveiled part of the administration’s upcoming budget plan to further protect law enforcement officers while making Kentucky a leader in public safety. Gov. Beshear’s proposed budget includes an additional raise for KSP troopers and officers, increased training stipend, an improved pension system for local and state law enforcement and funding for body armor.

Since taking office, Gov. Beshear has awarded more than $10 million in grant funding to assist state and local law enforcement agencies. On Aug. 31, the administration awarded $2.1 million in grant funding to enhance public safety, curb the sale of illegal drugs and fight addiction.

In April 2022, the Governor signed legislation he championed the previous year to fund a $15,000 raise for all troopers and establish paid vacation, sick leave and holiday pay, as well as enhanced health insurance contribution payments for retired KSP troopers and commercial vehicle enforcement officers.

For the first time in the commonwealth’s history, the Beshear-Coleman administration provided $12.2 million for KSP to purchase body cameras. Earlier this year, KSP demonstrated the new recording system, which will be distributed to approximately 780 sworn personnel.
