Kentucky State Police Investigates Officer-Involved Shooting in Perry County
SCUDDY, Ky. (Sept. 25, 2025) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been requested by a DEA Task Force to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the early afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, in Perry County. No injuries were reported, and an adult female was arrested. Troopers and detectives arrived on the scene and have begun an investigation.
The early stages of this investigation indicate that a DEA Task Force, consisting of officers from multiple agencies, was at a residence on Scuddy Mountain Road near the community of Scuddy in Perry County. The task force had arrested a man at the residence earlier, stemming from a separate investigation. Shortly before 1:00 p.m. EDT, as the officers were finishing up and preparing to leave the scene, a female emerged from the residence armed with a firearm. She fired it in the direction of a law enforcement vehicle while it was occupied by several officers and hit the vehicle. Officers asked the woman to drop the weapon, which she then did. Officers arrested the woman, 30-year-old Ashley Lewis-Begley, without further incident.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation. To protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation, it is KSP’s standard operating procedure not to release specific details until vital witnesses have been interviewed and pertinent facts gathered. Timelines to complete investigations vary based on the complexity of the case.
