UPDATE: Kentucky State Police Conducts Death Investigation in Floyd County

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (July 30, 2024) – As a result of this investigation, Michael McKinney lll, 24 years old of Martin, KY, was arrested and lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center on the charges of Murder and seven counts of Complicity to Tampering Physical Evidence.

Michael McKinney ll, 56 years old of Martin, KY, was arrested and lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center on the charges of seven counts of Complicity to Tampering Physical Evidence.

Josh Mullins, 23 years old of Martin, KY, was arrested and lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center on the charges of seven counts of Complicity to Tampering Physical Evidence.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (July 12, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post began investigating the murder of Amber Spradlin on June 18, 2023. After being transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office it was confirmed Spradlin had suffered multiple stab wounds. During the course of the investigation, detectives have interviewed several members of the community and executed numerous search warrants for residences, electronic devices, and physical evidence. Physical evidence including DNA evidence has been submitted to the KSP Laboratory and we are currently awaiting those results.

Since the investigation began, detectives have received numerous tips from the community regarding the investigation. To ensure the investigation is as thorough as possible, detectives must investigate every tip or piece of information they receive. This has resulted in countless hours of investigating tips that were hearsay or otherwise false. The Kentucky State Police would like to ask the public to please contact us at 606-433-7711 with any credible information regarding the investigation. We just ask you keep in mind detectives must investigate each tip that comes in so please only relay credible information.

MARTIN, Ky. (June 19, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post was notified of a deceased female on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at a residence on Arkansas Creek in the Martin community of Floyd County.

KSP troopers and investigators responded to the residence on Arkansas Creek in reference to the incident. The initial investigation indicated Amber Spradlin, 39 years old of Prestonsburg had suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of suspected foul play. Spradlin was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.

Detective Justin Wireman is leading the investigation and was assisted on scene by KSP personnel. # # #
