Records Administrative Specialist

The Kentucky State Police Criminal Identification and Records Branch mission is to equip criminal justice users with information necessary to ensure public and officer safety. This branch serves as the focal point and central repository for criminal justice information services in Kentucky. The administrative specialist with their knowledge base and skill set is the back bone for sustaining this “information hub” which encompasses numerous databases used by national, state and local law enforcement agencies.  Responsibilities of a Criminal Identification and Records Branch Administrative Specialist may include: validating sex offender registrant information to determine compliance, investigating potential disqualifiers for weapons purchases, maintaining computerized criminal history records used in statewide background checks and submission of crime data through uniform crime reporting. Skills imperative to success in this field include stress management, customer service, solid judgment, attention to detail and computer literacy. Training for the following systems will be provided: Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy, Law Information Network of Kentucky (LINK), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (NLETS), National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and Kentucky’s Open Portal Solutions (KyOPS).
