Kentucky State Police Investigate Leslie County Fatal Shooting
Wooton, KY (August 29, 2024) – On Thursday, August 29, 2024, at approximately 3:32 A.M, Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard, received a call for assistance from the Leslie County Sheriffs Office, in reference to a shooting complaint on Cutshin Road located in the Wooton community of Leslie County.
Upon the arrival of KSP units, Mary M. Andrews, 49, of London, was located at the residence with a gunshot wound. Ms. Andrews was transported to Mary Breckinridge hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Preliminary investigation indicates that Andrews boyfriend William E. Pennington, 54, of Wooton discharged a handgun striking the victim.
Pennington was placed under arrest and charged with Manslaughter 1st Degree. He was Lodged into the Leslie County Detention Center. Andrews was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office pending autopsy. This incident remains under investigation by Detective Eric Caldwell.
