About the Kentucky State Police Facilities Security Branch

The Facilities Security Branch of the Kentucky State Police ensures a safe and secure environment for public officials, employees and visitors in state-owned or leased buildings and facilities in Frankfort, Kentucky including the Capitol and the Capitol Annex.

Kentucky State Police Facilities Security Officers provide security services to protect life and property including, but not limited to, preventing and suppressing criminal activity and disturbances, entry and exit control for public properties, responding to burglary and fire alarms and responding to requests for assistance.


To be employed as a KSP Facilities Security Officer, applicants must be capable of meeting the requirements to receive a Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) commission under KRS 61.900-930 – OR – be previously commissioned as a SLEO in Kentucky. In addition, KSP Facilities Security Officers must complete initial firearms training and maintain firearms qualification and their SLEO commission as a condition of employment with the Kentucky State Police.

Applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED, must be 21 years of age prior to being commissioned as a SLEO, and must hold a valid driver's license. KSP Facilities Security Officers hired after June 1, 2010, are subject to the agency policy that tattoos or body piercings shall not be visible while in any agency issued uniform.

Additional Information

If employed as a KSP Facilities Security Officer, submission to random drug testing will be mandatory during the course of employment.

The starting salary for KSP Facilities Security Officers is $1,945.50 per month plus benefits.
